The Department of Education and Skills’ Planning and Building Unit is now developing low-energy educational buildings with the help of the generic repeat design (GRD) type school. This is a programme delivering many primary schools. To minimise risk on so many projects, it brings together proven-in-use technologies. It is significant because of the practical simplicity of its low energy design and repeatability on sites with varied orientations. The site for the new Lismullin NS is currently occupied by a single storey school constructed in 1956 along with a number of temporary prefabricated classroom units and associated car parking, vehicle drop-off, play areas and underground services. It is proposed to develop the site for the construction of a new two-storey generic repeat design (GRD) 16 Classroom School with associated car parking, vehicle drop-off, play areas and underground services.
