Cork Street, Dublin 8
Dublin City Council
Local Authority Housing
This development consists of an apartment scheme comprising 47 dwellings plus a street level community facility over basement car park in the Liberties area of Dublin which is centred on a new public space on the site of a former timber yard. The interconnecting blocks range in height from two to six storeys over a basement car park and form a residential enclave with a sense of place along the Coombe by-pass. This residential project was developed on an inner city brownfield site with adjoining buildings along two of its four boundaries. Basement construction was challenging due to the presence of a high ground water table, and piled foundations were required due to poor subsoil conditions. This award winning design by O'Donnell + Tuomey Architects won the RIAI Award, AAI Downes Medal, Civic Trust Award and the RIBA International Award.
